Fall/Winter Intern Position Available



We are looking for an extremely motivated intern who will learn the craft of whole animal butchery from the ground up, starting with basic knife skills to eventually breaking down poultry, pork, lamb, goat and sides of beef. We will teach you the art of whole animal utilization and everything that surrounds it, learning the ins and outs of the cut table and the meat carcass while working side by side with our butchers. This is a great opportunity for someone to grow with us and get involved in helping to support the local food economy. 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Assisting in all cut table activities
  • Assisting in sausage prep
  • Unloading deliveries
  • Assisting in equipment cleaning and maintenance
  • Sorting, packing and labelling beef, pork, lamb and poultry according to cut and primal
  • Organizing and maintaining the meat inventory
  • Assisting in filling customer orders
  • Grinding beef, pork, lamb and goat
  • Customer service
  • Assisting kitchen team as needed

Requirements:


  • Minimum 2 days per week- 3 preferred
  • Ability to lift 100+ pounds
  • Weekend opportunities available
  • Minimum 3 month commitment

Other Info:


This is an unpaid educational program. Interns are welcome to attend our butchery classes free of charge. They will receive free staff meals, are provided relevant training materials and are eligible for staff discount. Future employment with Sutter Meats is not guaranteed.
